Rabies case reported in Buford area of Hall County

The second confirmed case of rabies in Hall County has been reported Friday.
Hall County officials said in a press release the rabid raccoon was found in the 4300 block of Chatuge Drive in Buford. It came in to contact with a dog.
The first case was in the East Hall area.
The raccoon was taken to the Georgia Public Health Lab in Decatur where tests showed the raccoon had rabies Thursday.
Positive alert signs have been posted in the area, and residents are urged to report animals acting unusually to Animal Services at 770-531-6830 or during non-working hours, call Hall County Dispatch at 770-536-8812. ....

Raccoon captured in East Hall tests positive for rabies
The Hall County government is warning residents to look out for animals behaving strangely, after a rabid raccoon was discovered in the 4100 block of Old Cornelia Highway in East Hall, according to a news release.
The county said the raccoon bit a dog, was captured and shipped to the Georgia Public Health Lab Virology Section in Decatur for testing. Hall County Animal Control was advised on Thursday, Feb. 4, that the raccoon tested positive for rabies.
Positive alert signs will be posted in the area where the rabid raccoon was located, the county s release said. Rabid raccoon found in Flowery Branch area

The raccoon and a dog had contact on Martin Road in Flowery Branch. Authorities shipped the raccoon to the Georgia Public Health Lab- Virology Section in Decatur and on Dec. 23, Hall County Animal Control received confirmation the raccoon tested positive for rabies.

Positive alert signs will be posted in the area where the rabid raccoon was located, according to animal control officials. Citizens who live in the area who see an animal acting abnormally should contact Hall County Animal Services at 770-531-6830. During non-working hours, citizens may call Hall County Dispatch at 770-536-8812.

Animal owners are encouraged to vaccinate their domesticated pets for rabies. Vaccines are available at the Hall County Animal Shelter, located at 1688 Barber Road in Gainesville, for $10 Tuesday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ....
