Foreigner among two held with half Kg heroin in Punjab
Shahkot, May 17 (UNI) The Shahkot police have arrested two drug peddlers including a foreign woman on the charges of selling heroin.
Station house officer (SHO) Surindar Kumar Kamboj said that the accused have been identified as Elizabeth alias Liz daughter of Marry a citizen of Kenya and presently living in New Delhi and Sammi Kapur son of Desraj a resident of Najafgarh , South Delhi .SHO said that 505 grams heroin was recovered from their possession adding that the accused were travelling in a car (HR-55-AG-1940).
SHO said a case under sections 21(C) /61/85 of the NDPS Act has been registered against the accused and impounded their car. The accused were produced in a court which remanded them to police custody for two days. ....

Islamabad : The World Bank has just released a report on “global social protection responses to COVID-19”. This report is called the “living paper” and it is a partnership effort involving 18 coauthors and a large number of contributors; the paper presents a 650-page volume and accompanying database documenting how countries and territories are planning, implementing or completing social protection measures in the context of the pandemic.
The report states that there has been “an exponential growth in social protection measures between March 20, 2020 and May 14, 2021 and that a total of 3,333 social protection measures have been planned or implemented in 222 countries or territories”. ....

Tetraplegic Sophia Malthus was among disabled protesters clutching placards who rallied in Greenlane today calling on authorities to save the Laura Fergusson Trust.
The Trust supports young disabled people with physical and neurological impairments.
Its rehabilitation centre has been providing treatment from its home and respite care unit for almost half a century, so young people with disabilities don t have to be confined in rest homes. ....

Two minor sisters and six youngsters were among 12 people who lost their lives in various road tragedies during the three days of Eidul Fitr in Karachi. Two people also died of electrocution during the holidays.
The minor sisters were killed and their mother injured in a traffic accident on Airport Link Road within the limits of the Airport police station on the first day of Eid.
The minors were identified as four-year-old Khadija, daughter of Babar, and six-year-old Hiba, and their mother as Barka, 35. Police said that two young women, who were also sisters, were also injured in the accident. They were identified as Fahimda, 22, daughter of Ahsan, and her younger sister Faiza, 20. The casualties were taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC). ....
