Israel announced its long-awaited decision on the acquisition of next-generation heavy-lift helicopter on 25 February after it announced it has opted for the Sikorsky CH-53K King Stallion.

The Israeli Ministry of Defense (MoD) said in a statement that defense minister Benny Gantz accepted the recommendation presented by Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Aviv Kohavi and Defense Ministry director general Major General (res) Amir Eshel to select the CH-53K.
Israel was also considering Boeing’s CH-47 Chinook as a possible replacement for the CH-53 Yasur helicopters the Israeli Air Force (IAF) has operated since the late 1960s. ....

Israel s Minister of Defense Benny Gantz decided to accept the recommendation of IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Aviv Kochavi and Ministry of Defense director general Amir Eshel to choose Lockheed Martin s CH53K called the King Stallion as Israel s new heavy-lift helicopter. JERUSALEM Israel has decided to purchase Lockheed Martin’s CH-53K helicopter over the Boeing-made CH-47, the Defense Ministry announced Feb. 25.
The move is seen as essential for Israel, as its older CH-53 Sea Stallion “Yasur” helicopters have been in use since the 1960s.
Defense Minister Benny Gantz said the decision to purchase new heavy-lift helicopters for the Air Force is a significant step in further building up the Israel Defense Force’s capabilities. “It is also essential to the IDF’s ability to carry out a wide range of operational activities. The new helicopter is adapted to the [Air Force’s] operational requirements and to the challenges of the changing battlefield,” he added. ....
