WC Human Settlements concludes West Coast district visit

Western Cape Minister of Human Settlements, Tertuis Simmers.
NATIONAL NEWS - Western Cape Minister of Human Settlements, Tertuis Simmers said that it was pleasing to engage the Matzikama, Bergrivier, Saldanha Bay and Swartland municipalities over the last three days and to provide insight as to why his Department’s budget of more than R 2,35 billion for the 2021/22 financial year will empower the people of this province.
During these visits and accompanied by his senior executive officials, where they met with full Councils, Minister Simmers highlighted the refocused areas of the Department.
The primary focus is on creating opportunities in the affordable housing market, as more than 70% of the province’s citizens are employed and would in all likelihood not qualify for a free fully subsidised housing opportunity, as their household income could be between R 3 501 – R 22 000. ....

Durban - INVESTMENTS in infrastructure have been prioritised as the government seeks to trigger economic revival and create much-needed job opportunities in KwaZulu-Natal.
MEC for Finance Nomusa Dube-Ncube tabled her budget for the 2021/22 financial year during a virtual sitting of the legislature on Tuesday.
The budget laid bare the bleak economic realities facing the country, and revealed yet another round of budget cuts across all departments, leaving the provincial government feeling that they have cut all the way to the bone.
Dube-Ncube said despite the need for budget cuts, they had tried to avoid reducing the budget for infrastructure, adding that President Cyril Ramaphosa had identified infrastructure “as one of the pillars the country’s economic revival will be based on.” ....

Medico-legal claims remain Eastern Cape's biggest bud...

Raising serious concerns about spiralling medico-legal claims against the Eastern Cape Department of Health, Eastern Cape MEC for Finance Mlungisi Mvoko said on Wednesday as he tabled his budget that the payouts of damages due to medical negligence for the past financial year totalled R920-million.
He said unused funds from other departments had been reprioritised to assist the struggling department.
“These litigation [costs] are a burden. They are compromising government’s ability to render services. We are hard at work to fix this. Multi-pronged teams and strategies, involving the Office of the Premier, Provincial Treasury and Health have been set up to deal with this burden. These teams and strategies seek to improve our capacity on administrative systems, legal, clinical and budget aspects. ....
