JOHOR BARU: Despite having to handle funeral preparation for the remains of up to 18 Covid-19 patients a day, Faizah Hamezah has never considered her task difficult.
In fact, she views her role as fardhu kifayah (compulsory communal obligation) that she is required to perform.
Faizah, 40, also continues to carry out the task, fully aware of the reality and the huge risks that she faces daily.

THE cancellation of donation drives in compliance with the movement control order and the National Recovery Plan (NRP) this year could see a drop of between 20% to 30% of blood collected in Johor.
Dr Mohd Redzuan Abdullah, a transfusion medicine specialist at Hospital Sultanah Aminah (HSA) blood bank, said that about 70% to 80% of blood collection was obtained from donation drives held statewide.
“We expect to face more challenges collecting blood this year compared to last year, due to the higher number of Covid-19 cases.
“On top of that, with more government workers and private companies working from home, we expect to see a further reduction in blood donation drives held at their respective workplaces,” he told StarMetro in an interview at HSA. ....

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia recorded its highest ever daily figure after registering 6,075 new Covid-19 cases.
The country’s coronavirus death toll has also breached the 2,000 mark after another 46 fatalities were recorded, and 559 patients are now in intensive care units (ICU) nationwide.
With Malaysia’s Covid-19 situation reaching new heights, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah has called on all quarters to put aside their differences and overcome the pandemic as one.
