The first Barbadian Bishop of the Roman Catholic Church will be exploring how the Church can reach out to members of the homosexual community when he takes up his duties in another three months.
During a meet and greet with members of the media via Zoom today, 55-year-old Bishop-elect Neil Scantlebury stressed that everyone needed salvation, as all have sinned and fallen short of God’s glory.
“My sin may not be your sin, and your sin may not be my sin, but yet we are all sinners, and being sinners we need the mercy and grace of God. Experiencing God’s forgiveness and mercy and knowing what God desires of us will indeed help to push us in the right direction,” he said. ....

Bishop-elect raises questions on crime, violence

The new chief clergyman of the Roman Catholic church in Barbados – the first native-born in the faith’s near 400-year history here – has called for answers to deeper questions on the nature of crime and violence in the country.
Bishop-elect of the Diocese of Bridgetown Neil Scantlebury said on Tuesday that while prayer is important, the church must also work with the judicial system to address underlying issues affecting the perpetrators of crime.
He declared: “We pray for a better environment, a better Barbados, and it is going to happen, it is happening, but we also have to do our part. Prayer is one part, but we also need to do practical things to help people to be better. ....
