Amherst K-6 school budget proposal cuts staff including 2 teachers

AMHERST – The Amherst School Committee that governs three elementary schools in town convened a budget hearing Tuesday night with a preliminary spending plan that cuts 5.5 full time equivalent jobs, including two teaching positions a classroom and a special education teacher.
Other proposed staffing cuts, projected to reduce spending by $372,000 include specialists for art, technology, and food services and facilities personnel.
The projected budget for the fiscal year that begins July 1, according to documents posted on the school website, show an overall $846,070 increase of 3.5% from this year’s $23.9 million budget, to $24,758,522. ....
