Private school associations reject decision to shut educational institutions

Rejecting the Sindh government’s decision to keep the schools and colleges closed in the province from Monday, July 26 in view of the rising Covid-19 cases in the province, associations of private schools have decided to convene on Monday to announce their future course of action.
In a high-level meeting on Friday, the provincial government decided to have the schools and colleges in Sindh closed from July 26 onwards, but to continue with the annual board examinations as per the schedule already issued by the respective educational boards.
However, the Sindh convener of the Grand Alliance of private school associations, Aleem Qureshi, said the provincial government should announce a clear and unequivocal policy regarding educational institutions because schools and universities were supposed to start new academic sessions in August. ....

Alarming rise in Covid-19 cases in Karachi

KARACHI: The Sindh chief minister Friday announced to shut down dining at restaurants and marriage halls, close shrines, recreational spots and educational institutions, except those where examinations are taking place and reduced business timings of markets/shops from 6am to 6pm from Monday.
CM Murad Ali Shah took the decision following the recommendations from Provincial Taskforce on Covid-19. The situation prompted the provincial government to send an SOS signal to the National Command and Operation Center for more oxygen cylinders and related equipment to treat the rising number of critical patients as oxygen crises intensified in Karachi hospitals.
Presiding over the meeting of Provincial Taskforce on Covid-19, the chief minister said that pharmacies and bakeries would operate as usual, but there would be two closed days: Friday and Sunday, while the government and private offices would function with 50 percent staff attendance, except the departmen ....

Health authorities have started reserving more beds, wards and human resources at two major tertiary-care hospitals in Karachi to deal with the growing number of Covid-19 cases, as the positivity rate due to the highly transmissible Delta variant, which accounts for 92 per cent of the infection cases in the city, has jumped to 23.32 per cent.
“A surgical ward comprising 48 beds is being converted into a Covid-19 ward at the Civil Hospital Karachi [CHK], while the pulmonology ward at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre has also been put on standby to deal with the rising cases due to the Delta variant, which is now spreading like wildfire in the city,” a Sindh Health Department official told The News on Sunday. ....
