The official handing over ceremony for the End of Term Report from the outgoing Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Mr. Kwesi Quartey to the incoming Deputy Chairperson, H.E. Dr. Monique Nsanzabaganwa, took place today 12 March 2021, at the headquarters of the African Union Commission (AUC) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The ceremony took place in the presence of H.E. Moussa Faki Mahamat, Chairperson of the AU Commission, and the Commissioners.
Chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat in his remarks thanked the outgoing Deputy Chairperson Amb. Kwesi Quartey for the commendable job done during his tenure. He emphasized on his commitment to serve the AU Commission with loyalty as Deputy Chair and concluded by urging everyone to do their best to attain inclusive and sustainable economic growth and development encapsulated in Agenda 2063. ....

March 8, 2021, is International Women’s Day and rugby unions and organisations in Africa are taking the opportunity to rightfully celebrate the positive impact of women in the sport and development.
To commemorate International Women’s Day in Nigeria, Club and Community Coaches organized training games in Delta, Benin, Abia, Benue, Ogun and Lagos States.
NRFF President Kelechukwu Mbagwu charged the Women s Rugby Development Committee to go all out and get more Women and young girls Into Rugby “Today, we celebrate International Women’s Day. Uganda Rugby Celebrates Womens Day With Level 1 Course for Women - Afrik-news.com : Africa news, Maghreb news


To celebrate women’s day, the Uganda Rugby Union (www.UgandaRugby.com) organized a Level 1 coaching course for women at Kyadondo Rugby Grounds. The course was conducted by World Rugby Educators Helen Buteme and Andrew Owor.
The level 1 course covered coaching tips, principles of play, roles of a coach, the different coaching styles and aims of coaching. A participant centered approach for the 16 female rugby players was used to ensure proper understanding of the course elements. The course involved many practical sessions to do with ball reception kick off, line outs, clearing a pass, a swab, mauling, drop kicks.
All the candidates successfully passed the course and are ready to implement what they learnt. ....

COVID-19 cases in Africa to top 4 million, vaccine rollout underway - Afrik-news.com : Africa news, Maghreb news


Africa is poised to surpass 4 million COVID-19 infections this week since the continent’s first confirmed case in February 2020. The year-long battle against the virus, which has also claimed over 106 000 lives, is now receiving a crucial boost with the arrival of vaccines through the COVAX Facility – a multi-partner vaccine procurement platform.
Following a second wave which peaked at much higher numbers than Africa’s first surge, new case numbers declined for five weeks, and then plateaued during the past three weeks at around 70 000 cases per week. In the last week, there has been a slight uptick in new cases and an upward trend in 12 countries, including in Cote d’Ivoire, Ethiopia and Cameroon. ....
