Kerala polls: 957 candidates from 140 constituencies to lock horns on Apr 6


Kerala heads in for Assembly elections on Tuesday with battle lines drawn between the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) which hopes for continuity of term, and the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) even as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is being seen as a potential threat in many places.
Campaigning came to an end in the state on Sunday for the 957 candidates in the fray for the elections to the 140-member Kerala Legislative Assembly.
On March 19, which was the last date for submission of applications, 2180 applications were received all over Kerala by Election Commission. After scrutiny, it dropped to 1061. As many as 957 candidates are contesting in the Assembly elections after the last date for withdrawal of nomination papers. ....

APSEZ acquires remaining 25% stake of Krishnapatnam Port


This will result in Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) increasing its stake from 75% to 100% in Krishnapatnam Port.APSEZ announced the acquisition of the residual 25% stake in Adani Krishnapatnam Port for Rs 2,800 crore from Vishwa Samudra Holdings. Together with the 75% ownership acquired in October 2020, the acquisition implies an enterprise value of Rs 13,675 cr implying an EV/ FY21 EBITDA multiple of 10.3x.
Krishnapatnam Port being India s second largest private sector port has a strong growth potential with a masterplan capacity of 300 MMTPA. The investment is in line with company s strategy to increase its footprint in Andhra Pradesh.

Chhattisgarh Naxal attack: Amit Shah to attend review meeting, meet injured


Union Home Minister Amit Shah
will arrive in Chhattisgarh on Monday to chair a high-level meeting in connection with the Naxal attack in the state s Bastar region that claimed the lives of 22 security personnel, a senior official said.
Shah will reach the Jagdalpur airport (in Bastar district) at around 10.35 am, following which he will attend the wreath-laying ceremony to pay respect to the martyred personnel at the Police Lines here, he said.
It will be Shah s first visit to the Bastar region after assuming the charge of Union home minister, he said.
In Jagdalpur, the wreath would be laid on the mortal remains of 14 security personnel, while tributes would be paid to the other deceased jawans at the Bijapur district headquarters, the official said. ....

Several states, UTs shut schools, suspend classes as Covid-19 cases surge


Several states and union territories, including Maharashtra, Punjab and Delhi, have announced closure of schools or suspended classes briefly till the COVID-19 situation is further reviewed in the wake of rising cases across the country.
Coronavirus cases in India hit a record daily high since the outbreak of the pandemic with over one lakh new infections pushing the nationwide tally to 1,25,89,067, according to Union Health Ministry data updated on Monday.
While a few states and union territories like Delhi, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu have announced closure of schools for an indefinite period, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar and Punjab, among others, have suspended classes for a brief period. Schools have been directed to impart education through online classes in view of the situation. ....

Sensex, Nifty drift lower in early trade; breadth negative


Key benchmark indices are trading lower in early trade on selling pressure in index pivotals as trading resumed after long weekend. At 9:25 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, was down 390.27 points or 0.78% at 49,639.56. The Nifty 50 index was down 99.40 points or 0.67% at 14,767.95.
The S&P BSE Mid-Cap index was down 0.47%. The S&P BSE Small-Cap index was down 0.53%.
The market breadth, indicating the overall health of the market, is negative. On the BSE, 882 shares rose and 1158 shares fell. A total of 142 shares were unchanged.
Meanwhile, in the wake of rising COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra, Uddhav Thackeray-led state government on April 4 imposed new curbs to control the transmission rate of the contagion. Maharashtra will be put under night curfew from 8 pm to 7 am from April 5. ....
