MARDAN: District police arrested 113 persons including 13 proclaimed offenders and 8 abettors in various crimes during raids on Monday.
A spokesman for Mardan police said that on the directives of District Police Officer Dr Zahidullah Khan, the cops conducted raids in the city, Par Hoti, Toru, Sheikh Maltoon, Katlang, Chura, Rustam, Takhtbhai, Saroshah and Rustam areas.
During the actions, 13 proclaimed offenders and 7 abettors in various criminal cases were arrested and weapons including 26, pistols, 2 Kalashnikovs, 4 shotguns, 605 bullets, and 1237 grams charas were also recovered. Meanwhile, 92 suspects were apprehended during checking at nakabandis for further investigations. ....

PESHAWAR: The autobiography titled “Tazkara -i-Jamil” originally written in Persian by Allama Abdul Jamil and detailing events of around 36 years, has been kept in a local home library in manuscript form.
The author Allama Abdul Jamil hailed from the Toru area of Mardan (1864 AD -1946 AD). It was preserved by noted Pashto writer Mohammad Israr-Ur-Rehman Toru as the manuscript is an important historic document.
The book narrates the story of a great religious scholar who had mastered several branches of knowledge and scaled up the height of success in an early age as he was gifted with keen and deep insight and natural talent. He had attained a high repute among religious circles in the pre-partition era that many could not even think of today. ....

PESHAWAR: Rain that lashed the provincial capital Sunday evening turned the weather pleasant and broke the hot dry spell.
It was followed by a wind thunderstorm that hit the city and caused disruption of electricity supply and communications system. Most parts of the provincial metropolis faced a power breakdown for almost five hours that exposed the power consumers to untold miseries.
Though the rain was received for a short interval, it inundated low lying areas and pooled water on roads and streets. The rainwater got accumulated at the Bacha Khan, the underpass near the Central Prison Peshawar that affected the smooth flow of traffic and troubled the pedestrians as well. ....

Mardan DRC resolves 147 disputes in one month

MARDAN: District Police Officer Dr Zahidullah Khan has said that the Dispute Resolution Council (DRC) has resolved more than 147 disputes in the district during the month of June.
Briefing reporters, he said the DRC received a total of 174 cases, out of which 147 were resolved with the consent of the parties involved, in accordance with the Pashtun tradition of the jirga.
He said the disputes resolved included those of land, money, family disputes, and murders. “DRC committees have been set up in all circles of Mardan district and the DRC members have been selected impartially so that they can also play an impartial role in deciding cases,” he added. ....

Minister asks govt deptts to ensure timely completion of projects

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Parliamentary Affairs Akbar Ayub Khan said on Sunday that government departments should cooperate with each other for timely completion of developmental projects.
He was addressing a joint meeting of the local heads of WSSC Mardan, TMA Mardan and Communications Department at the LG Secretariat in Peshawar, said a handout.
The meeting took stock of the hygiene, sanitation, and development schemes in the area. The pace of work on the projects was also reviewed and necessary decisions were taken.
Akbar Ayub said that coordination among the heads and officials of all departments was essential to ensure the quality and timely completion of development schemes. He said that the goal of sustainable development could be achieved through the confidence of the people. ....
