Australia’s peak oil and gas industry representative body today said the deal between the Morrison and Marshall Governments to secure South Australia’s energy supply shows the importance of gas working with renewables.
“This $1.08 billion deal shows how Natural gas is at the forefront of reducing emissions and energy security,” said APPEA Chief Executive Andrew McConville.
“Natural gas plays an important role in balancing renewable energy, ramping up and down to match supply and demand.
“Gas is affordable, reliable and good for good for the environment.”
APPEA’s South Australian Director Claire Wilkinson said gas is already playing an increasingly important role in South Australia to balance intermittent renewable electricity. ....

The Morrison and Marshall Governments have signed a $1.08 billion State Energy and Emissions Reduction Deal that will deliver secure, reliable and affordable energy to South Australians and help Australia continue to meet and beat its emissions reduction targets.
Under the agreement, the governments will pursue initiatives that create additional dispatchable generation to help deliver affordable and reliable power, unlock gas supplies to help prevent shortfalls in the market, kick-start works on a new interconnector between South Australia and New South Wales, and invest in key emissions reduction projects.
The Commonwealth will contribute $660 million and South Australia will provide $422 million as part of the agreement. ....

Regency to Pym project on home stretch – finishing early and under budget
The Regency Road to Pym Street (R2P) project is on the fast track to early completion in a major win for road users and local businesses.
The $354 million R2P project, jointly funded by the Morrison and Marshall Governments, is expected to open to traffic in late April 2021, months ahead of schedule with expected savings of between $20 million to $40 million.
Full project completion which includes landscaping, ITS commissioning and final asphalting is scheduled to be complete for the end of 2021, instead of early 2022.
Having started on the Marshall Liberal Government’s watch, the congestion busting R2P project is being delivered seamlessly while creating 210 jobs per year during construction. ....
