Every holiday season the Marshalltown Animal Rescue League sees an increase in pet adoptions, an adorable gift with lots of responsibility.
Executive Director of Marshalltown Animal Rescue League Shelly Nodland said pets as gifts are exciting fun for families, but does not allow pet adoption as gifts for others who they don’t live with.
Some animals surrendered to the Marshalltown Animal Rescue League were originally gifted as pets, but became unwanted.
“We don’t want to set the animal up for failure,” Nodland said. “The animal could be unwanted or just not a good match for the person, so it’s so important for the adult owner to meet the animal first.” ....
