No more solar, pass the scones: CWA votes to stop solar projects on prime farm land

Large-scale solar development in regional New South Wales has gained an unexpected new opponent, with the state chapter of Country Women’s Association of Australia voting to call on governments to prevent solar farms from being developed in prime agricultural areas.
The motion was put by the Jindera branch of the NSW CWA, at the Association’s 99th annual state conference in Bega last week. The motion was carried by a two-thirds majority of the 250-strong crowd.
In comments to The Land, last week, CWA NSW president Stephanie Stanhope said members were concerned that a number of solar farms being proposed for regional NSW were “foreign-owned” and being built on land that was better used for farming. ....

NBN News | CWA CALLS ON GOVERNMENT TO DO MORE ABOUT MICE PLAGUE


The Country Women’s Association has joined calls for the New South Wales Government to do more about the mice plague.
Association President, Stephanie Stanhope, says many farmers have had to deal with damaged fodder stocks and crops due to the rodents.
The CWA also believes the mice are taking a toll on people’s health – claiming some residents have been bitten in their beds.
Ms Stanhope wants the government to put a specific plan in place to combat the plague, including providing funding for farmers to replace spoiled stock.

Members of the Far North Coast Group of the Country Women’s Association of New South Wales (CWA) gathered in Lismore on Saturday for their Group Facts Day.
The Lismore Workers Club played host to group for the event which was organised as a day for members to learn more about the CWA as an organisation, and to get the facts about stepping into office bearing positions.
The Group say it was a privileged to welcome CWA State President Stephanie Stanhope to share her knowledge, as well as Honorary State Secretary Margaret Bruest, and Honorary State Treasurer Anne Kotz. ....
