Police in Lyantonde are investigating circumstances under which a man beheaded his wife over infidelity claims. The shocking incident occurred at Kyewanula village in Lyantonde District when a man who is currently on the run killed his wife and locked him inside the house for two days. The deceased has been identified as Nuliat Namata, a wife to Jamadah Ssengoba. The southern regional police spokesperson Muhamad Nsubuga has confirmed the incident saying that police has taken the deceased’s body to hospital for postmortem. Related articles ....
This followed an application by Ssempiija complaining that the vote counting and tallying was marred by irregularities which denied him victory. Katabaazi, pulled over 12,000 votes against Ssempijja’s 10,800, indicating a margin of 1,300 votes. Former area MP Umar Lule Mawiya (Ind) came in third place with 6,400 votes followed by Didas Mugooma another independent candidate with 2,300 votes. Court presided over by Masaka Chief Magistrate Charles Yeteise, has heard that the tallying exercise was full of gross irregularities and that Ssempijja’s polling agents were reportedly chased from some polling stations. Ssempijja’s lawyers led by Geoffrey Kandebe told the court that similar incidents of chasing polling agents occurred in at least 25 polling stations which gave a chance to Katabaazi’s agents and Electoral Commission polling officials to reportedly tamper with the votes to the disadvantage of Ssempijja. ....
Supporters of Mawogola North constituency contestant Sodo Aine Kaguta have protested his withdraw from the race saying that he did not consult them. Led by Vincent Kimbugwe, they are accusing Kaguta of disappointing and betraying them at a time they hoped for a change in leadership. The Lwemiyaga County MP Theodore Ssekikubo has also condemned Sodo’s decision to pull out of the race well knowing he had a vast majority of supporters. Sodo however says his decision follows a meeting with his brother President Museveni who has advised him to stand down to avoid conflicts within the family. It is reported that Museveni met with Sodo and his main challenger Minister Sam Kutesa’s daughter Shartis Musherure last evening and that it was agreed Sodo steps down to avoid clashes between the two families. ....
