The Karnataka government on Thursday shifted out two warring IPS officers of the IGP rank - D. Roopa and Hemanth Nimbalkar - who have been involved in a raging controversy over irregularities in the tendering process for the multi-crore Nirbhaya Safe City Bengaluru project.
Their transfers were effected by the state government, along with of six other IPS officers.
Controversy erupted earlier this month after 1998 batch IPS officer, Hemanth Nimbalkar, the chairperson of the authority vested with the power to invite tenders for the Nirbhaya Safe City Bengaluru project, wrote to the Chief Secretary alleging that a woman officer had impersonated the Home Secretary to seek classified information from a participating company which was drafting the tender. ....

BENGALURU: In a major reshuffle to the police department, the state government has transferred several IPS officers including IGPs D Roopa and Hemant M Nimbalkar, who had locked horns over the tender process of Bengaluru Safe City Project.
Roopa, who was Secretary to Government (PCAS), Home Department, has been transferred and posted as Managing Director, Karnataka State Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd., while Nimabalkar, who was Additional Commissioner of Police (Administration), Bengaluru city, is transferred to the Internal Security Division (ISD). ....

Karnataka s Home Secretary D Roopa has been making the headlines lately as she s been at the forefront of the raging controversy around the Safe City Project for Bengaluru. In this context, Roopa, IPS, had been engaged in a war of words with Himanth Nimbalkar, another senior IPS officer who is the Additional Commissioner of Police (Administration), Bengaluru and chief of the tendering committee for the project. But the upright IPS officer became the victim of bureaucracy for highlighting a possible scam.
