AJK elections on July 25 - Newspaper

MUZAFFARABAD: Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) retired Justice Abdul Rashid Sulehria on Thursday announced that elections for Legislative Assembly will be held on July 25.
Announcing the election schedule at a presser, he asserted that his institution would leave no stone unturned to conduct the election in a free, fair and impartial manner.
The Election Commission (EC) members, Raja Farooq Niaz and Farhat Ali Mir were also present in the press conference.
Of the 45 direct seats of the assembly, 33 are located in AJK territory and 12 in Pakistan, he said.
The commission would seek the army’s assistance to ensure law and order during elections. However, in case the army personnel are not available, civilian armed forces and paramilitary troops would be called for the purpose in addition to the AJK police personnel, responded Mr Niaz to a question. ....

ISLAMABAD: Separate debriefing sessions on the recent by-elections in NA-75 Sialkot-IV and NA-249 Karachi West-II were held Tuesday and Wednesday here to cover the weaknesses and shortcomings so that these were not be repeated in future.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja, who chaired the events, emphasised that in view of the shortcomings that have arisen in the country, preparations should be made for the general elections of 2023 and work should be done on the guidelines, rules and regulations where amendments were required.
The sessions were held here at the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Secretariat in which the members of the ECP and the ECP secretary also participated. ....

Kurram, Nowshera by-polls today

PESHAWAR: All is set to hold by-elections on NA-45 Kurram-I and PK-65 Nowshera today.
About 180,000 voters are expected to exercise their right of franchise in NA-45 Kurram. The seat had fallen vacant due to the death of JUI-F MNA Munir Khan Orakzai.
Twenty-seven candidates are in the run for the seat. However, a tough contest is expected between the candidates of JUI-F and PTI.
The PK-63 Nowshera provincial assembly seat fell vacant after the death of ruling PTI MPA, Mian Jamsheduddin Kakakhel due to coronavirus.
