A friend told me about your article about Ernest Thompson visiting the MMAS center. (“On Golden Pond writer teams up with Mansfield arts center”). The Thompson house which was purchased from the Butterworths was located where the gas station is, not on the Xfinity property.  Mr. Butterworth was a gentleman farmer and sold asparagus, pears and red raspberries to the markets in Mansfield.
The Thompsons lived there during Theron Thompson s time as superintendent of Mansfield schools.
I lived in the Bielan house at 900 S. Main where the Electrical Workers Union building stands now. Ernest, his brother Paul and I would skate and play in the woods on The Point and in the Great Woods behind their home. Ernest and his brother were regularly crossing the Bielan property to access the reservoir. They even tried out their skis on the hill to the reservoir. Back in the ’60s the reservoir would often freeze 12 inches thick so a good skater could go all the ....
