Myanmar approves $2.5bn gas power project
Myanmar s military junta has approved a gas-fired power plant project that will cost $2.5bn, the country s Directorate of Investment and Company Administration (DICA) said on May 7. This is part of the $2.8bn worth of projects that the junta, which seized power in February, has sanctioned.
The electricity generated by the power plant will be sold domestically, DICA said. It did not disclose which company will be setting up the power plant.
The country s first gas-fired power plant came online in June last year. The plant is operated by CNTIC VPower – an equal joint venture between China National Technical Import Export Corp and VPower Group. There are a number of other companies planning to develop gas-fired power projects in Myanmar. ....

Bangkok-listed TTCL Public Co has signed a power purchase agreement with Myanmar state-run Electric Power Generation Enterprise for the 388-MW gas to power project in Yangon region, the company said on January 20.
The Ahlone power plant is expected to cost $685mn and will be attached to a 28-km power line, a 25-km gas pipeline and LNG receiving terminal. The electricity generated will be supplied to Myanmar’s national grid.
TTCL received the notice to proceed with the project from the ministry of electricity and energy in January 2018. TTCL is developing the project along with Japan’s Sojitz Corp, Shikoku Electric Power Co, and Inpex Corp. It will be Myanmar s first gas-to-power plant and is due online in 2024. ....

YANGON A state-owned enterprise in Myanmar has signed a power-purchase agreement with a Thai-based engineering and construction company which plans to develop a US$685 million (911 billion kyats) power plant in Yangon.
On Wednesday, the agreement was signed by Electric Power Generation Enterprise, which is controlled by the Ministry of Electricity and Energy, and TTCL Power Myanmar Company Limited, a subsidiary of Thailand’s TTCL Public Company Limited. TTCL is a joint venture between Italian-Thai Development Public Company Limited, which holds a 52-percent stake, and Japan’s Toyo Engineering Corporation, which holds the remaining 49 percent. ....

Integrated Domestic Gas to Power Project in Myanmar after receiving an exclusive development right from the Myanmar government. This integrated energy project aims to provide energy security to Myanmar as well as to lead the company to explore the new business as targeted.
Mr. Phongsthorn Thavisin, Chief Executive Officer of PTTEP, said the company today signed Notice to Proceed for the development of Integrated Gas to Power Project with U Than Zaw, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Electricity and Energy (MOEE). This project will promote the utilization of domestic gas supplied from PTTEP’s gas fields in the Gulf of Moattama, starting from Zawtika and Myanmar M3 projects, to generate affordable electricity for Myanmar. ....
