Funding of just over €1 million is set to be spent in Laois this year to make homes livable for people with disabilities.
In total, €1,031,693 will be spent on Disabled Persons Grant Scheme and the Improvement Works in Lieu of Local Authority Housing Scheme in Laois this year.
A total of €928,524 of this funding is provided by the Department of Housing and the 10% balance is being provided by Laois County Council.
The Disabled Persons Grant Scheme provides funding for extensions and adaptations to existing social housing stock such as grab rails, disabled access ramps, wet rooms, etc. The scheme also provides extensions in cases of overcrowding. The Improvement Works in Lieu of social housing scheme (IWILs) allows local authorities to improve or extend privately owned accommodation, where the occupant has been approved for social ho ....

Over €1.5 million available for Tipperary under two grant schemes

Over â¬1.5 million will be available for Tipperary under the Disabled Persons Grant Scheme and Improvement for Works in Lieu of Local Authority Housing Scheme.
The funding has been welcomed by local TD Michael Lowry who says the grants will be of great benefit to those who can get works done.
Under both schemes, exchequer funding meets 90% of the cost of the works in each property, with the Local Authority providing the remaining 10%.
This means that 1.38 million will come directly from Government Funding, with the balance of 153,00 coming from Local Authority funding.
The allocation has been welcomed by Tipp TD Michael Lowry who says the grants have a huge impact on the quality of life of the many beneficiaries and play a vitally important role in helping people with a disability to continue to live independently. ....

â¬837,000 in funding has been approved for the Disabled Persons Grant Scheme & Improvement Works in Lieu of Local Authority Housing Scheme in Donegal.
The DPG scheme provides funding for extensions and adaptations to existing social housing stock for older people and people with a disability while funding under the IWIL scheme, local authorities can improve or extend privately owned accommodation, where the applicant has been approved for social housing.
In welcoming the funding, Minister Charlie McConalogue says; This is important funding for Donegal to help the lives of our older tenants and those living with disabilities. It will help those services continue the great work they do. ....

Mayo has been allocated just under €780,000 under the Disabled Persons Grant Scheme and the Improvement Works in Lieu of Local Authority Housing Scheme.
Government funding meets 90% of the cost of the works in each property, with the local authority providing the remaining 10%, meaning Mayo County Council contributed €77,960 to the fund.
The DPG scheme allows for adaptations to social housing units for older people and people with a disability; such as grab rails, disabled access ramps, wet rooms and downstairs bedrooms.
This funding will be used to adapt 69 units across Mayo, as well as extending five units, and improvement works on two units. ....
