Covid-19: Close to 10,000 will receive vaccine today under phase two of immunisation plan


PETALING JAYA: More than 9,000 senior citizens, the disabled and those with comorbidities are scheduled to receive the vaccine on Monday (April 19) as the country kicks off the second phase of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme.
Coordinating minister Khairy Jamaluddin said 9,916 people are scheduled to receive the vaccine on the first day of the programme today.
Khairy noted that the Dewan 2020 hall in Perlis will see the largest group being vaccinated, with a total of 924 recipients.
He added that the second phase in Selangor will only start on April 26 as the state is still completing vaccinations for those under phase one. ....

State Community Development and People’s Wellbeing Minister Shahelmey Yahya, who represented Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor at the state-level phase two launch here, urged more Sabahans to register for vaccination as the state s take-up rate was still low.
“As of Saturday (April 17), 428,934 have registered, so we want more people to sign up, he told reporters at the launch, held at the Federal administration centre’s multipurpose hall, which is also one of the state s 212 vaccination centres.
Responding to claims of queue-jumpers during the first phase, he said there were none because all the vaccine recipients were frontliners and those in essential services. ....

An Australian court has found Google misled consumers into thinking they had disabled tracking on Android smartphones - by making opt-out a two-step process, with a second step that was not obvious.
The Australian Consumer and Competition Commission, which brought the legal action, wants financial penalties and a publication order for Google to better explain its process to users. These penalties will be decided at a later date, if the ruling survives appeals. ....
