Bengaluru: Police seize nearly 42,000 vehicles in 54 days | Bengaluru News


The tally includes 37,362 two-wheelers, 2,036 three-wheelers and 2,434 four-wheelers, according to police.
BENGALURU: The police seized 41,832 vehicles for curfew and lockdown violations in 54 days (April 10 to June 3), averaging 774 per day. Last year, 49,414 vehicles were impounded during the two phases of Covid-19 lockdown March 24 to April 30 and July 14 to July 22 at an average of nearly 1,075 a day.
This year’s tally includes 37,362 two-wheelers, 2,036 three-wheelers and 2,434 fourwheelers. The corresponding figures last year were: 46,237, 1,200 and 2,077.
Police officers said they were strictly enforcing the restrictions announced in the wake of the second wave of Covid-19. The restrictions will stay in place till June 14 as the government on Thursday extended the lockdown again. Unlike last year, movement of vehicles has been allowed for various purposes such as vaccination and buying groceries. ....

Karnataka announces 15-day lockdown from tomorrow
Karnataka government has decided to impose a complete state-wide lockdown beginning from the evening of April 27. The decision to lock down the state was made after a cabinet meeting headed by Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa. The lockdown will last for 15 days. 
Covid curfew to be implemented in the state from tomorrow 9 PM for the next 14 days. Essential services allowed 06.00 to 10.00 AM. After 10.00 AM, all the shops should be closed. Only construction, manufacturing, and agriculture sectors are allowed to operate, said Yediyurappa. 
Yediyurappa also added that public transport will not work during these 15 days. However, he made it clear that the government will allow home delivery of alcohol.  ....

With COVID-19 cases in Bengaluru reaching almost 13,000 on Sunday, the State government is contemplating prescribing Bengaluru-specific guidelines to control the pandemic.
Revenue Minister R. Ashok told mediapersons on Sunday that specific guidelines for Bengaluru will be announced after seeking permission from Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa. “There will be no lockdown. The Chief Minister has also clarified on this. We will not allow the livelihood of the poor to be affected. We have to live with COVID-19,” Mr. Ashok said after meeting Home, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Basavaraj Bommai and Health Minister K. Sudhakar on Sunday. ....
