New Delhi: Union information and broadcasting minister Prakash Javadekar on Tuesday said there has to be more transparency in the way television rating points (TRPs) are awarded, after the committee constituted to review guidelines on television rating agencies submitted its report.
Javadekar announced that the recommendations of the report submitted by the panel, headed by Prasar Bharati CEO Shashi Shekhar Vempati, will be evaluated. Certain guidelines will be issued to the Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC), the primary body that publishes TRPs in India. Incidentally, Vempati is also a board ....

Committee on TRP ratings submits report; I&B Minister hints at more transparency and larger sample to rule out manipulation

The committee headed by Prasar Bharati CEO Shashi Shekhar Vempati to access the existing rating system for TV channels has submitted its report today, I&B Minister Prakash Javadekar told the media.
After the fake TRP scam broke in October 2020, the Ministry had formed a committee on TRP ratings on Nov 4, 2020.

Javadekar said that the ministry will examine the report and further action will be taken. “The main issue is that there should be more transparency in TRP and base must be expanded to rule out the chances of manipulation, he said. ....
