SIALKOT: The government withdrew customs duties on more than half of tariff lines which exporters should capitalise on to increase exports, commerce adviser said on Saturday.
Adviser to Prime Minister on Commerce and Investment Razak Dawood the ministry of commerce removed customs duties on 4,000 tariff lines of raw materials and intermediate inputs, which constitute 54 percent of all tariff lines, to stimulate the industrial activity.
âPakistan is moving in the right direction, and the focus is on âmake in Pakistanâ,â Dawood said addressing a meeting with businessmen at Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI). ....

Pakistan, Uzbekistan vow to increase bilateral trade

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Uzbekistan on Wednesday agreed on the importance of further increasing bilateral trade and investment through partnership between the public and private sectors.
The countries decided to involve the relevant chambers of commerce, and export development and investment promotion agencies during the sixth meeting of the Uzbek-Pakistani Intergovernmental Commission on Trade-Economic and Scientific-Technical Cooperation in Tashkent, according to a statement.
They decided to attract leading companies in pharmaceuticals, textile, leather, production of construction materials and agriculture industries.
Adviser to the Prime Minister for Commerce and Investment Razak Dawood co-chaired the meeting. ....

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has deputed new counselors in China to promote foreign investment in industrialisation under the second phase of the latter-financed economic projects in the south Asian economy, it was learnt on Saturday.
China has been financing infrastructure development in neighbouring Pakistan since 2013 to connect its western part with the rest of the world. Under its ambitious Belt and Road initiative, works on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects resulted in a network of roads and new power generation.
The next phase under the CPEC framework is cooperation in agriculture and industrial sectors. Despite all efforts, the project is taking a slow start with the Pakistani government stressing its openness to investment from across the word and not just China. ....
