Yorkton-area organizations launching programs to help older adults with dementia

Three Yorkton-area organizations are ready to launch programs that aim to reduce the feeling of social isolation for older adults living with dementia and their caretakers.
The five-year Interventions to Enhance Social Inclusion of Older Adults with Dementia in Saskatchewan project started in 2019 with a $3 million contribution agreement funded by the federal government’s New Horizons for Seniors program.
The project is being conducted through the Saskatchewan Population Health and Evaluation Research Unit (SPHERU), a research centre based at the University of Regina and the University of Saskatchewan.
We re very interested in reaching out and making sure that the interventions that we fund actually have dimensions that actually reach out to the rural communities, said Tom McIntosh, co-director of SPHERU. ....

Team Froese finds creative ways to raise funds and awareness about Alzheimer's


Indy said it wasn t very difficult to meet their goal, as many people supported their cause. He also explained that Team Froese has a personal motive to keep participating in the campaign.
We are motivated because our grandfather has Alzheimer s, dementia, and we decided that it would be awesome if we could raise awareness and raise funds for people affected by Alzheimer s, Indy said.
Last year s success inspired them to keep on with their mission this spring. The team has already started fundraising towards their goal of $1,250, which they want to forward to the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan after the walk. These funds will go towards programs and services that improve the quality of life for people living with dementia and their families, as well as funding research into causes, a cure and improvements to quality of life. ....
