SCCI hails efforts to check illegal trade

PESHAWAR: The Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) has appreciated the government for consulting the business community to set up Pakistan’s Land Port Authority (PLPA).
In a press release, the SCCI hoped the government’s initiative would discourage illegal trade and remove hurdles in the way of bilateral and transit trade with Afghanistan as well as the Central Asian Republics
The press release quoting SCCI Senior Vice-President Engineer Mansoor Elahi said the establishment of the authority would facilitate the business community, including exporters and importers.
He was speaking at a meeting at the Customs House here on Saturday. ....

Salalah-based PET packaging manufacturer, Octal, has announced its latest round of relief efforts for Oman’s Ministry of Health as it combats the current wave of Covid-19. Donating vital medical equipment to Sultan Qaboos University Hospital, as part of a series of contributions the company has made since the beginning of the pandemic, Octal continues to explore ways to add value to the country that extend beyond manufacturing.
Since March 2020, Octal has donated to the Ministry of Health’s Covid-19 Fund, sponsored the purchasing of medical equipment, and utilized its state-of-the-art facility in Salalah to provide key raw material free for medical face shields to meet the requirements of the health sector in addition to manufacturing hand sanitizer for free company-wide distribution. ....

Muscat: Majlis Ash’shura on Sunday hosted Salim bin Mohammad al Mahrouqi, Minister of Heritage and Tourism.
The tourism sector has witnessed a steady growth in its indicators over the past years, bringing the sector’s total contribution to RO 1.3 billion by the end of 2019, with a direct added value of RO 718 million riyals, compared to 700 million riyals in 2018, forming 2.5% of the Sultanate’s GDP. The number of inbound visitors increased, reaching 3.5 million visitors in 2019, said the Minister while addressing the council.
In the field of craft industries, work is underway to implement a programme consisting of an inventory of craft industries, documenting them at the governorate level, creating a comprehensive database, determining the contribution of the craft industries sector to the domestic production, activating the studies of developing craft industries and converting ....
