Experts, in a new study, say that blood group O is protective against COVID-19 infection even as being a male makes an individual twice more susceptible to contracting the infection than the female, in Oyo State.
The study, which confirmed the association between ABO blood groups and COVID-19 infection and the severity of infection, says individuals with blood groups B and AB were also more susceptible to the disease. Within ABO blood group systems, there are four different blood groups: A, B, AB and O
They also found out that the blood group was not associated with whether the patients have respiratory or gastrointestinal symptoms but age modestly predict if a patient infected with SARS CoV 2 would become symptomatic. ....

COVID-19 vaccines: Right step, but emphasis high risk groups —Experts

Share
A consultant public health physician/epidemiologist and a member of the Lagos State COVID-19 Response Team, Professor Akin Osibogun, says that the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC)’s emergency approval of Oxford, the AstraZeneca vaccine is a right step to prevent individuals from developing severe illness and  will cut Nigeria’s spending on required intensive care unit services.
Professor Osibogun, who declared that this now means the vaccine can be legally imported into the country and administered to Nigerians, however, said NAFDAC will need to continue to monitor the vaccine’s safety and efficacy.
The expert, who stated that he supports the use of the vaccine in Nigeria said although a vaccinated person can still transmit COVID-19, vaccinated people are not likely to ever get the severe illness. ....

Why Gov Abdulrazaq enjoys massive support in Kwara

Share
For several years, the late Chief Olusola Saraki, the Waziri Ilorin, reigned supreme in the Kwara State politics. From the Second Republic down to the present democratic dispensation, his name made or marred the political fortune of many aspirants in the state.
His political clout  spanned  over three decades. The political legacy of “Oloye” remained unrivalled until 2019 when the “Oto ge” Tsunami put an end to the political influence enjoyed by the Sarakis in Kwara State politics. With a change in government, courtesy of the “Otoge” revolution, a political “greenhorn”, on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq emerged the governor of the State of Harmony. The new Kwara helmsman,  a consummate businessman is the son of the first lawyer from the Northern Nigeria, the late A.G.F AbdulRazaq (SAN). ....

Defence minister's strange counsel | Tribune Online

Minister of Defence, Bashir Magashi, astounded Nigerians last week.  While addressing journalists at the National Assembly complex, he offered a panacea for the banditry ravaging the country, counselling Nigerians to defend themselves. The minister said: “It is the responsibility of everybody to keep alert and to find safety when necessary. But we shouldn’t be cowards. At times, the bandits will only come with about three rounds of ammunition. When they fire shots, everybody runs. In our younger days, we stood to fight any aggression coming for us (sic). I don’t know why people are running from minor things like that. “Speaking further, the minister urged Nigerians to shelve cowardice, resist attacks from criminals, and prove that they did not have sole access to violence. He then enthused:” Even the villagers have the competency and capability to defend themselves. ....
