Kidnappers Abduct DELSU SSANU Chairman

Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, Comrade Monday Izu, has been kidnapped.
Izu was kidnapped by heavily armed gunmen alongside his driver along Eku-Abraka road while returning from an official assignment in Warri on Thursday evening.
Sources said yesterday that the kidnap took place at a failed portion of the road in Erho, one of the Abraka communities.
It was learnt that Comrade Izu was returning from a journey when he was waylaid by gunmen and whisked away.
Delta State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, confirmed the incidence. ....

Unknown gunmen have kidnapped Comrade Monday Izu, Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, Delta State University, Abraka Branch.
Sources said that the labour leader was abducted on Thursday night.
His whereabouts was yet to be ascertained as at noon on Friday as the kidnappers were yet to open any contact with family members of the victim.
The abduction was confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer for Delta State Police Command, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, when contacted.
But the PPRO told journalists that efforts were in top gear by operatives of the Command to rescue the labour leader unhurt as well as apprehend the abductors. ....

The spate of insecurity in the Delta State University (DELSU) community, Abraka on Thursday further nosedived with the abduction of the chapter chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Mr. Monday Izu.
According to Vanguard, the labour leader was abducted on Thursday night along the Eku-Abraka Road in the Erho area while returning from Warri where he had gone for an official engagement. ....

Varsity workers declare nationwide indefinite strike

Varsity workers, under the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Non- Academic Staff of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), have declared an “indefinite, comprehensive and total strike,” with effect from Friday, 5th February 2021.
However, the Unions said they have delayed the immediate take-off of the strike till February 5, to give the Federal Government and relevant stakeholders opportunities to arrest the situation.
The strike is coming about a month after the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), called off its strike, which paralyzed all academic activities in the university system for over 10 months. ....
