Ekiti varsity proscribes four staff unions, shuts down institution

The Governing Council of Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti has announced the proscription of all the four staff unions in the institution following days of unrest on the campus.
The affected unions are, Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) , National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT), and the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU).
The university, in a statement by the Head, Directorate of Information & Corporate Affairs, Bode Olofinmuagun also announced the immediate closure and ordered students to vacate the campus with immediate effect.
The statement read, ” All academic activities are hereby suspended. This is as a result of the continuous disruption of lawful activities on campus which have endangered lives and property in the last one week. Consequently, to guarantee peace and orderliness on campus, all the four unions ( ASUU, SSANU, NAAT, and NASU) are hereby proscribed with immedi ....

The Governing Council of Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, has proscribed the four labour unions in the university.
The workers’ bodies are the Academic Staff Union of Universities; Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, Non-Academic Staff Union of Education and Associated Institutions; and National Association of Academic Technologists.
The council also announced the immediate closure of the university and ordered students “to vacate the campus forthwith”.
A statement on Saturday by EKSU Head, Directorate of Information, Bode Olofinmuagun, titled, ‘Closure of the university’, said the action was “as a result of the continuous disruption of lawful activities on campus which have endangered lives and property in the last one week”. ....

The staff and students of the University of Jos, on Monday, held a peaceful protest against a directive by the
National Universities Commission (NUC) suspending the process for the selection of a new vice-chancellor for the university.
Addressing journalists during the protest at the Naraguta Campus of the University, the secretary of the local branch of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Muplang Kangpe, decried the role of the NUC in the process.
“The involvement of the NUC in the selection process will truncate the due process laid down for the legal selection of the vice chancellor, that’s why we are protesting,” he said. ....

Controversy rocks LAUTECH over removal of VC
The governor of Oyo State had asked the vice-chancellor to step aside for unknown reasons
Mr Ologunde was asked to ‘step aside’ last Friday by Governor Seyi Makinde over reasons not stated in a letter seen by PREMIUM TIMES.
The governor in the letter signed by the state’s commissioner for education, science and technology, Olasunkanmi Olaleye, urged the VC to hand over to the principal officer next to his rank.
