Bureau Veritas (BV), a world leader in testing, inspection, and certification (TIC), has successfully proven the value of deploying its artificial intelligence (AI) solution for corrosion detection during a hull inspection of a water ballast tank on a bulk carrier by an aerial drone. The test was conducted in partnership with the RIT operator, MaDfly Marine Drone Services Ltd, in Dunkirk, France.
Bureau Veritas successfully tested the use of the AI solution in real survey conditions. Bureau Veritas (BV) said it deployed its artificial intelligence (AI) solution in real survey conditions for corrosion detection during a hull inspection of a water ballast tank on a bulk carrier by an aerial drone. The test was conducted in partnership with the RIT operator, MaDfly Marine Drone Services Ltd, in Dunkirk, France.
During the hull inspection, the BV solution supported the surveyor during his general visual inspection and close-up survey of the hull by providing results on the video in real-time. The application also has the capacity to run offline without any connection to internet, and it can be deployed on the field with the computing capacity of a normal computer. ....

Bureau Veritas (BV), a world leader in testing, inspection, and certification, has released new-generation classification rules for wind propulsion systems. These rules will help support and drive the development of zero carbon propulsion options for modern ships.
The new Bureau Veritas rule notation for WIND PROPULSION SYSTEMS (WPS) – NR 206, builds on pre-existing BV rules released in 1987. Now two new notations have been issued to provide the classification requirements for modern wind powered ships: WPS 1 for standing rigging and WPS 2 for standing and running rigging. Both provide load cases and coefficients for all types of wind propulsion technologies including free-standing rigs, wing sails, kite sails, and wind turbines. ....

Etihad Airways has partnered with GE Aviation to
launch GE’s 360 Foam Wash jet engine cleaning system.
The Abu Dhabi-based airline will use GE’s 360 Foam Wash
on the GE90 and GEnx-1B engines on Etihad’ Boeing 777 and 787
fleet.
GE’s 360 Foam Wash is an
alternative to the water wash method, and restores engine
performance leading to reductions in fuel consumption. The process
involves injecting a specially-formulated, proprietary solution
that removes dust and dirt particles in the engine. The system is
self-contained, allowing it to be used inside maintenance hangars ....
