Site of Alberta's deadliest outbreak now listed as COVID-19 free

EDMONTON
After 58 residents of a west Edmonton care facility died of coronavirus, officials at the centre announced they were “COVID-free” with zero active cases on Tuesday.
“We are grateful for the support of our families and staff as we worked through this challenging time,” Bonnie Roberts, Site Director at CapitalCare Lynnwood, wrote in an update.
Her report was emailed to families and posted publicly on the centre’s webpage.
“We are by no means through this journey yet. Your continued encouragement and support is much appreciated,” Roberts added.
There had been 262 cases at the facility amongst residents and staff. All 103 ill staff recovered, while only 101 residents recovered. ....

COVID-19 outbreak at west Edmonton care home linked to 55 deaths and more than 200 total cases

The deadliest COVID-19 outbreak on record in an Alberta long-term care centre is at CapitalCare Lynnwood where 55 residents had died as of Friday.
“They’re not clients. They’re not patients, they’re your family. A lot of times the staff are the only people that some of these patients see and they see them on an everyday basis,” said Susan Slade, vice-president of Alberta Union of Provincial Employees, Friday. “It is like a loved one passing away. So, the thought that 55 people have passed away. It is devastating.”
