The neglect faced by the capital city from the part of the government has been a talking point for a while now. But, with this year’s budget, the state seems to have given a real push to developmental activities in the district. The budget has allocated `100 crore for the Capital City Development Company that aims to develop the growth corridor which will revolutionise the landscape of Thiruvananthapuram.The project proposes the construction of a 78km six-lane road from Vizhinjam to Navayikulam, which runs along the eastern side of the city. ....

Additional expenditures at ₹ 1,164 cr; revenue mop-up at ₹ 200 cr
Kerala Finance Minister Thomas Isaac has presented a Covid-dented State budget for 2021-22 that provides for additional expenditures of ₹ 1,164 crore and tax concessions of ₹ 191 crore against additional revenue mobilisation of just ₹ 200 crore, leaving a cumulative deficit of ₹ 1,306.69 crore.
Isaac presented his 12th overall and the last budget of the Pinarayi Vijayan government on Friday which observers dubbed as an election-oriented one. The jobs-welfare-doles theme rang loud and clear in the budget after it earned a swashbuckling win for the ruling Left Democratic Front in elections to the local bodies held in December. Assembly elections are due in next four months. ....

Bid to improve State’s position in ‘ease of doing business’ rankings
Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac used the Budget speech on Friday to lay out a road map for improving the State s position in the ‘ease of doing business’ rankings. The construction of three industrial corridors with a capital investment of around ₹50,000 crore will start in 2021-22.
The cut in Value Added Tax on CNG/LNG from 14.5% to 5% brings cheers not just to PSUs such as FACT and BPCL, but also to domestic consumers of city gas projects. The stamp duty on sale deed has been reduced from 8% to 4% and the registration fee from 2% to 1%. ....
