New logo and board of directors part of rebuild for Melfort Arts Council

Over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Melfort Arts Council has taken steps to regroup and rebuild. The rebuild really got underway in the fall of 2020 and has included a new logo, new board, and new vision and mission.
Arts Council Chair Joanne Bolen told
northeastNOW they are excited to unveil their new logo which has a couple of meanings behind it.
“We wanted it round to encompass our tag line of arts, community, connection,” Bolen said. “We also wanted our lettering of M.A.C in it and then added color to make it more welcoming.” ....

Northern Lights Gallery, located on Main Street in Melfort is bringing Slow Art Day to the community on Saturday, April 10. The worldwide event is coming to Melfort for the first time as a chance to appreciate the art that is made in the area. According to gallery owner Sandra Dancey, in the times we are in, an event like this is beneficial.
This is the eleventh year for the event internationally. It’s designed as a day to slow down and appreciate art. ....

More people in northeast Saskatchewan are recognizing the importance of the arts during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the Melfort Arts Council chair Joanne Bolen.
“I see people that I never knew were artists decide to start painting and they’re awesome,” Bolen told
northeastNOW after a recent arts council meeting. “We’ve been having a lot of Zoom meetings. We have another meeting in three weeks. We are looking for a performing arts director.”
The 12th City Artist Collective put on a pop-up show near the end of 2020 at RJ’s Urban Garden in Melfort. Six artists from the area displayed 10 pieces for the show. ....

The COVID-19 pandemic makes 2020 a year many may prefer to forget but there is hope for the future. We’ve decided to make that the focus of our series of end-of-year stories.
Chair Joanne Bolen said they are looking for a new performing arts coordinator and are also working on new a mission and vision statement.
“This happened at an appropriate time because we have downtime right now so we are going to be able to use this winter to work on rebuilding for the future,” Bolen said.
The group looks forward to a new and exciting council for the new year, according to Bolen. ....
