Belarus Olympic Runner Who Feared Going Home Lands in Poland

VIENNA, Austria (AP) Belarusian Olympic sprinter Krystsina Tsimanouskaya, who feared for her safety at home after criticizing her coaches on social media, flew into Warsaw on Wednesday night on a humanitarian visa after leaving the Tokyo Olympics, a Polish diplomat confirmed.
Deputy Foreign Minister Marcin Przydacz said the 24-year-old athlete had arrived in the Polish capital after flying from Tokyo via Vienna, a route apparently chosen to confuse those who would endanger her safety. In a statement, the diplomat said he “wanted to thank all the Polish consular & diplomatic staff involved, who flawlessly planned and secured her safe journey.” ....

L avion transportant la sprinteuse Krystsina Tsimanouskaya qui avait critiqué ses entraineurs lors des JO de Tokyo a atterri ce mercredi en début de soirée en Pologne, pays qui lui a accordé un visa humanitaire. L athlète refusait de rentrer dans son pays par crainte pour sa sécurité.

Magnus Brunner, Staatssekretär im österreichischen Umweltministerium, erläuterte: „Sie hat in Österreich kein Asyl beantragt und wird voraussichtlich nach Polen weiterfliegen.
Das tat sie und traf am Abend in Warschau ein. Auch Timanowskajas Ehemann hatte eine Aufenthaltsgenehmigung für Polen erhalten.
Die Sportlerin sei mit einem humanitären Visum eingereist, sagt der stellvertretende polnische Außenminister Marcin Przydacz.
Timanowskaja hatte vor ihren Abflug aus Tokio eine Untersuchung der Vorkommnisse gefordert. Bei ihrem Protest gegen die Einberufung in die 4x400-Meter-Staffel habe es keinen politischen Hintergrund gegeben, betonte sie.
