Kudos for library shift, despite dearth of English services

The city picked up a Plume dâOr for the digital shift in the cultural programming of its library network last month, the prize awarded at the virtual Gala of the Association des communicateurs municipaux du QuÃ©bec.
During the pandemic the city libraries accelerated their shift towards 100% digital programming including a YouTube channel and transforming their conferences into video clips accessible free of charge and around the clock.

Itâs been a major bugaboo for thousands of Laval residents for years.
The seasonal alternating parking rule forcing residents to scramble for parking spots and move their car from one side of the street to the other for what often seemed like nebulous purposes, is coming to an end.
Beginning next winter seasonal alternating parking will be a thing of the past on Ãle JÃ©sus, save for during defined maintenance and snow-clearing operations. The number of days that alternate parking will be imposed will drop from about 150 to an average of 36 per year, as residents need no longer move their vehicles every day on weekdays from October 1 to April 30. ....

Official opposition says new by-law needed to protect trees from construction projects
Laval needs a new by-law to protect its trees from damage during major development projects – like the one that saw the creation of new public transit reserved lanes on Avenue des Bois last year, leading to the destruction of nature trails – official opposition leader Michel Trottier argued during the April 13 webcast of Laval’s monthly city council meeting.
Responding to Trottier’s suggestion, Mayor Marc Demers said Laval already has a tree-protection by-law on its books, although “it dates from another era and the sums of money, the penalties are no longer up to our expectations.” ....
