CNA file photo Tainan, Jan. 20 (CNA) Several large-scale public events in Tainan that are scheduled to be held around the Lunar New Year holiday will be suspended due to a surge in domestic cases of COVID-19, according to Mayor Huang Wei-che (黃偉哲). The events to be canceled include the Yanshui Beehive Fireworks Festival slated for Feb. 25-26 and the Yuejin Lantern Festival at Yanshui s Yuejin Port scheduled for Feb.6 -March 1. A spring greeting ceremony featuring a carnival-style street parade will also be canceled in response to the recent uptick in domestic COVID-19 cases, said Yeh Tse-shan (葉澤山), director-general of the Tainan Cultural Affairs Bureau, on Wednesday. ....

Agoda s 2019 Usage and Attitude study compiled accommodation data between June to August from more than 22,000 people from 20 countries, CNA reported. The company said that 75 percent of Taiwanese arranged domestic trips to seek out gourmet foods. In light of the survey results, Agoda teamed up with popular chef Cheng Chien-ke (鄭堅克), more popularly known as James (詹姆士), to produce a series of videos that share his dining and lodging experiences in Tainan, Taichung, and Yilan. (CNA photo) Eight adults and 14 children were hospitalized on Thursday after suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning at a Young Men s Christian Association (YMCA) swimming pool in Tainan, southern Taiwan. The city s Fire Bureau sent officers and ambulances to the pool at about 5 p.m., after receiving reports that many patrons were feeling unwell, light headed or had vomited. A carbon monoxide detector showed that the level of the toxic gas in the basement heated swimming pool was 499 parts per million (ppm), far higher than average indoor levels of 0.5 to 5 ppm.
