Tribute to Associate Professor Christine Tippett AM

FIGO is deeply saddened to share the news that Associate Professor Christine Tippet AM has passed away.
Professor Tippett was elected to the position of Honorary Treasurer of FIGO in 2018 and was previously the first – and only – female President of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG), from 2006 to 2008. She was also a dedicated member of the FIGO 2021 Congress Organising Committee. Professor Tippett made an enormous contribution to the international OBGYN community and will be greatly missed as a friend and colleague.
Having been appointed as one of just three trainees in obstetrics and gynaecology at Queen Victoria Medical Centre (QVMC) in Melbourne in 1981, Professor Tippett went on to receive the FJ Brown Medal for her results in the Royal Australian College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology exams. Menstrual disorder is common in perimenopausal women but it is rare to have a sinister cause, said Mary Ann Lumsden, chief executive of International Federation of Gynaecology and Obstetrics (FIGO).
She was delivering the Second Esther Memorial Oration virtually on Sunday at the continuing medical education programme organised by Chennai Menopause Society. “Investigation is generally straightforward and effective treatment options are available even during a COVID pandemic,” she assured the participating gynaecologists.
