By Hassan Gbassay Koroma The presiding Judge at the January 2021 Criminal Session Call-over, Reginald Fynn, yesterday granted bail to nine accused persons who are standing trial for alleged sexual penetration and have spent over one year at the Freetown Male Correctional Centre. The January 2021 Criminal Session contained forty (40) cases ranging from murder, wounding with intent, wounding, rubbery larceny, house breaking to sexual penetration. Sexual penetration cases dominated the calendar with seventeen (17) cases. According to the judge, bail was granted to ensure that the accused persons appear for trial whenever needed by the court, stating that those accused persons have spent more than a year at the Freetown Male Correctional Centre without bail, a situation he said affects the presumption of innocence before proven guilty. ....
Kerry Town, Western Rural District, Friday 22 January 2021 – His Excellency President Dr Julius Maada Bio has launched the Sierra Leone health village and turned the sod for the construction of an ultra-modern general hospital at Kerry Town, Western Rural District. “I am informed that per the MOU, EASI Trading Limited will build a 150-bed general Hospital that will provide such diagnostic imaging services such as Endoscopy, X-Ray, MRI and CT Scan. This project will also construct 40 flats for Doctors, 50 rooms for Nurses, a training facility for medical, nursing and other allied health professionals, and a 36-room building for people accompanying patients. At the same time, the project will create a minimum of 200 local jobs in the Kerry Town area,” he said. ....

In presenting its report on the much-heated bye-elections, the National Elections Watch ( NEW ) issued a serious complaint about Minister Sandy. According to NEW , Sandy stormed a polling station at Kent Village with thugs and disrupted the work of the National Elections Commission ( NEC ). One of the thugs even threatened the life of a district electoral commission. ....
