The forecast for Nelson over the weekend has the Tasman District Council giving the region a ‘heads up’ that some coastal routes, including State Highway 6, Rocks Rd may be affected by high tides.
Heavy rain and high tides forecast for the weekend have prompted a ‘heads up’ from Tasman District Council that there may be some road closures.

Lucky break as eagle-eyed snapper spots ray cruising for a feed

Smits wasn t sure what he was seeing in the Nelson Haven, until he saw both wing tips break the surface.
Smits was out with his camera for the first time in several months after breaking his arm.
The injury had made it difficult for him to manage his camera equipment and as luck would have it, his camera with a teleconverter lens on it had a flat battery, so he made do with his other camera.
Smits managed to capture another shot of it framed by the mountains in the background.
“I would have loved to have got both wings raised with the Western Ranges in the background but when I was ready it didn’t want to co-operate any more. ....

The Western Ranges will see the worst of the wet weather.
Heavy rain, strong winds, and possible thunderstorms are set to sweep northern and western parts of the South Island on Sunday.
Much of the North Island will see scattered showers with moderate risks of isolated thunderstorms in the west - possibly reaching Auckland in the afternoon.
The Westland Ranges will be hit hardest by the cold front, with up to 110mm of rain, 35mm/h winds, and possible thunderstorms expected.
A heavy rain warning for the ranges is in place until 1am Monday. ....
