Gardai appeal for public not to attend car meet in Sligo and Leitrim today Reporter: ); ); Gardai in Sligo and Leitrim have urged the public not to attend a planned meeting for car enthusiasts this weekend. Garda fficials have been made aware of the meeting, which is scheduled to take place today, Saturday April 17, in the Enniscrone area. The garda representative said: “We would like to remind people of the Covid-19 restrictions that are currently in place. “While there are temptations in us all to return to normal activities, attending an event like this is still in contravention of these regulations as newly announced restrictions only apply to the meeting of two households and still prohibit the organising of public events.” ....
A West Sligo publican has expressed shock with news last week that the government is considering new laws to extend pub opening hours. Minister for Justice Helen McEntee revealed proposals to permit pubs and nightclubs longer opening hours, including staggered and extended times. However, Breda Sheridan, who owns Sheridan s Bar in Kilglass with her husband Micheal, has criticised the idea and says the rural publicans have been forgotten about. In an email sent to Minister McEntee, as well as Taoiseach Micheal Martin, Tánaiste Leo Varadkar and other TDs from the region, Mrs Sheridan said she was quite shocked to hear of the proposals and had to check the date to see if it was an April Fools prank . ....
West Sligo native and contemporary harpist, BRÍDÍN, says she is delighted with the release of her new EP, titled Ocean of Stars. She carries on the traditions of unique skills and talents passed down through her family. The musician is fourth generation of her family to play Irish music and she plays harp, flute, piano, and dances sean nós. She said: I m so excited to have this EP out, as I ve been working on it for a while now getting it right. I ve met so many incredible musicians along the way that I m lucky to have worked with on my music. I couldn t be more pleased with the result! From hearing them in my head as an idea, to watching them grow was magic and so exciting. I hope Ocean of Stars EP can bring some happiness and calm to people in such a challenging time. ....
