An ambitious plan produced a result beyond expectations.
Members of Hope United appealed to the community for help with a simple fundraiser opportunity. Jill Gunn, executive director of Hope United, explains.
“We called the event ‘Baskets of Hope’ and the purpose was a fundraiser for Hope United, but the real winners (are) foster children here in St. Joseph County,” Gunn said. “We made 222 baskets in all, and we had enough to give a basket to all 136 kids in foster care in St. Joseph County.”
Each donor purchased a basket to give to a young recipient.
An undertaking of such magnitude was made possible by a core of volunteers. Gunn wished to thank the women’s group from Sturgis Evangelical Church and another group of women from Riverside Church in Three Rivers. ....
