Cooperators connected with Bihar’s District Central Cooperative Banks (DCCBs) have strongly condemned the state government move for merger of DCCBs with State Cooperative Bank and warned that they would be protesting against the government.
The cooperative leaders were reacting to the government officials seriously looking into the RBI guidelines issued recently in this connection.
In his reaction, Gopalganj DCCB Chairman Mahesh Rai said, the move is not in the interest of DCCBs and we are against this. Merger of DCCBs with StCBs will destroy the three-tier structure and ultimately with this farmers will suffer a lot because of lack of monitoring. ....

The Tamil Nadu government’s crop loan waiver scheme has again spotlighted how skewed the distribution of benefits is.
Farmers in Salem, Tiruchi and Erode constitute a substantial chunk of the beneficiaries. Around 31% of the total outstanding loan amount waived ₹3,727.72 crore out of ₹12,110.75 crore is from these regions. Again, in terms of beneficiaries, those in these regions 4,28,138 account for 26% of the total of 16,43,347 farmers. ....

DCCBs to be amalgamated with Punjab State Co-op Bank

Punjab will amalgamate 20 district central cooperative banks with the Punjab State Cooperative Bank (PSCB) by the end of this financial year, reports Tribune News Service.
Punjab has sought permission from the Reserve Bank of India in this connection. Following amalgamation, the PSCB will be the largest bank in the state with 804 branches.
It is worth mentioning that District Central Cooperative Banks (DCCBs) in Punjab serve nine lakh farmers lending Rs 12,000 crore each year to them. Sources say of the 20 District Central Cooperative Banks, 11 were Rs 700 crore in the red. ....
