Pot of woe: with shops closed and no customers, around four lakh litres of toddy are being dumped daily
It is not only tipplers but toddy tappers too are facing the brunt of the Covid-19 pandemic in Kerala. The lockdown in the second Covid wave has kept customers away from toddy shops, forcing tappers to dump in the open the brew extracted from coconut palms for both want of customers and closure of toddy shops.
Around four lakh litres of toddy are being emptied to the ground on a daily basis, leaving 25,000-odd toddy workers in the State in a mess. The closing down of toddy outlets since April 26 has kept out customers too. ....

Dr. Y.S.R. Horticultural University Vice-Chancellor T. Janakiram has urged coconut farmers to show interest on byproducts which have a good demand in the market.
He advised the farmers to take up new varieties as per the recommendations of the researchers for getting a good yield.
He was participating in a virtual national seminar on ‘Coconut Production and Value Addition’, jointly organised by the university and Central Plantation Crops Research Institute, Kasaragod, at Horticultural Research Station (HRS) Ambajipeta in East Godavari district on Friday. ....

New factory building of Tulunadu farmers’ company inaugurated

The new factory building and machinery of Tulunadu Ecogreen Farmers Producer Company, the first venture of Kasaragod farmers fully owned by them to promote processing and value addition of agricultural produce, were inaugurated recently.
The company is promoted by ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra and the Central Plantation Crops Research Institute (CPCRI) with financial aid from National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD). The building and machinery were inaugurated by Rajmohan Unnithan, MP, at Pallathinkal in Bedadka panchayat.
Currently, around 140 farmers are shareholders of the company
Mr. Unnithan said more farm producing companies need to be formed that could benefit farmers the activities should be extended to various parts of the district. ....
