In a move that will ensure uninterrupted power supply and ensure adequate lighting at tribal hamlets, the National Institute of Engineering (NIE) has proposed to install microgrids powered by solar and other forms of renewable energy.
This will not only be an eco-friendly initiative, but will also give a boost to tapping solar energy and other forms of renewable energy such as wind.
A pilot project in this regard has already been started at Hemmige tribal haadi in Hunsur taluk by the Centre for Renewable Energy and Sustainable Technologies (CREST) at the NIE. ....

IRENA and SACREEE to collaborate on Southern Africa's energy transition

The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and the Southern African Development Community’s (SADC) Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (SACREEE) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU), to work together on accelerating the deployment renewable energy solutions, including decentralised technologies, in Southern African countries. The two organisations will also co-operate on policy development, capacity building programmes and regional events aimed at attracting investments to the region.
Southern Africa has seen remarkable improvement in electricity access over the past decade. This is largely due to a strong commitment from SADC member states to take advantage of the region’s vast renewable energy potential to improve energy security and meet rising energy demand.
