New Year's Eve party: First Night Chatham to keep kids events outdoors

Six months before the revelry begins on New Year’s Eve, First Night Chatham organizers have already decided to keep most of the celebration outdoors.
In an announcement Tuesday, the event’s executive committee cited continuing COVID-19 concerns, especially for children, in their decision to limit indoor activities for the traditional last-night-of-the-year party. Typically, there are dozens of performances and entertainment in indoor venues all over town.
But there is no COVID-19 vaccination yet for children under age 12.
“A major concern of the (organizing committee) is ensuring a safe family environment, especially for our youngest participants,” the announcement said. “Therefore, children’s activities will only be held outdoors” with no purchased buttons for admission required. ....

Select Monomoy grades move to remote learning, Barnstable schools resume in-person classes

Monomoy Regional School District officials announced Monday students in grades 7 through 12 will switch fully to remote learning for the near future due to several cases of COVID-19 among the school community.
There are two cases at Monomoy Regional Middle School and two cases at Monomoy Regional High School, with a third pending, Joy Jordan, district community engagement coordinator, said in a statement Monday.
While the spread does not appear to have happened at school, there are now too many cases at our high school to have sufficient staffing to operate in person, Monomoy Regional School Superintendent Scott Carpenter said in the statement. ....
