Gujarat: BJP wins Morva Hadaf assembly bypolls May 02, 2021 Ruling Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) won the bypolls for Morva Hadaf Assembly constituency in Gujarat s Panchmahal district. BJP s candidate Nimisha Suthar secured over 67,000 votes to gain a comfortable margin of 45,432 votes against her Congress rival Suresh Katara, who secured 21,669 votes. Independent candidate had received 2,366 votes, while 1,566 votes went to NOTA. Morva Hadaf is a reserved seat for Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidate. The voting for bypolls was held on April 17. Earlier, an elected independent MLA from the constituency, Bhupendrasinh Khant was disqualified in May 2019 for submitting an invalid caste certificate. He had challenged his disqualification in the Gujarat High Court, which he had lost. Khant died in January this year following health issues. ....

The bypoll, necessitated due to the disqualification of legislator Bhupendrasinh Khant, was held on April 17. Counting of votes will take place in three rooms of Morva Hadaf college as per COVID-19 guidelines. Sanitisation has been done, social distancing has been taken care of. And as per Election Commission instructions, election agents have submitted RT-PCR reports for COVID-19, Panchmahal collector Amit Arora said. ....
Voluntary lockdown in Godhra Vadodara: With Covid-19 cases being reported from remote villages, many villages have started imposing lockdowns voluntarily. Most of these villages will keep businesses shut over the week. The decision is most cases has been taken voluntarily by traders after keeping the local panchayat or civic body in the loop. The trend is being observed in several villages or towns in central Gujarat. In Panchmahal district, traders in Godhra decided to keep businesses closed from Friday to Sunday to contain the spread. Similarly, Morva Hadaf, where assembly by-polls were held recently, will observe a lockdown till Monday. A similar decision has been taken for the Shehra town. ....
