A $3-million fundraising campaign has been launched to help build a new
The house provides a home away from home for Maritime families travelling to Halifax for hospital care.
Leslie McLean, co-chair of the fundraising campaign, said the new space will double the number of families they can support.
“In recent years, the requests from families has far surpassed the size of the house that we have,” said McLean. “In fact, we’ve had to turn away one in three families, which has been devastating.”
The Ronald McDonald House will go from supporting up to 18 families a night to 36 families. That works out to more than 1,200 families per year. ....

COVID-19 Prompts Big Challenges For N.B.'s Food Distribution Centre

It’s been a busy year for Food Depot Alimentaire, which now handles distribution for all 60 provincial food banks.
Executive Director Chantal Senecal said the process began about three years when the depot began serving as the distribution hub for food banks in southeastern New Brunswick because of their warehouse capacity and administrative support.
The membership of New Brunswick food banks voted to have them take over distribution in July.
Senecal says the process was expedited because of the pandemic.
“We fast-tracked a lot of that development because we were receiving federal funding and it had to be administered to New Brunswick for the food banks. So all the funding came to us and we were able to push that out to all the food banks across the province,” Senecal said. ....
