Storage needs in the enterprise and consumer spaces are not the same. In a large enterprise data center with lots of storage drives a small savings in power consumption can add up to big savings in an electric bill. Hitachi has shipped a new enterprise class HDD called the Ultrastar C10K600.
The new HDD comes in several capacities with 300GB, 450GB, and 600GB versions all using 2.5-inch form factors to take up less space and use less power than similar 3.5-inch offerings. The new 10K rpm HDDs are 15% faster when it comes to random performance and 18% faster for sequential performance than competing products on the market today. At the same time the performance increases, the drives also need 22% less power than competing products on the market. ....

Cyclone Tauktae: 15 fishermen who went to sea from Kozhikode missing

At least 15 fishermen who ventured into the sea on May 5 from Beypore port in Kozhikode are missing. All of them are natives of Tamil Nadu.
The boat Ajmeer Sha which sailed from the shores of Beypore on May 5 is missing and there is no information about any of the fishermen who were in the boat. Meanwhile another boat which went to the sea at the same time from Beypore has reached the Goan coast following some mechanical failure in its engine.
This boat Milad-3 also has 15 men from Tamil Nadu and all of them are at 7 nautical miles from Goa. The fishermen organisations have appealed to the Coast Guard and Navy to immediately start rescue operations. ....

In view of the high intensity cyclone warning issued by the Indian Meteorological Department to Maharashtra among other states, the Covid-19 vaccination drive in Mumbai stands cancelled on Monday, May 17.
The vaccination drive will continue as planned between May 18 and May 20. After May 20, the Serum Institute of India has informed the chief minister that one and a half crore vaccine doses per month will be delivered to the state. ....

Union home minister Amit Shah on Sunday chaired a high-level meeting to discuss preparedness for Cyclone Tauktae, that is likely to hit states like Maharashtra, Gujarat, Kerala and Goa, among others. This was attended by the chief ministers of Maharashtra and Gujarat, among others, via video conferencing.

AHMEDABAD: The very severe cyclonic storm Tauktae is likely to intensify during the next 24 hours and reach the Gujarat coast on Monday evening, the IMD said.
It would cross the state s coast between Porbandar and Mahuva in Bhavnagar district by early Tuesday morning, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in its latest bulletin on Sunday.
Tidal waves are likely to inundate several coastal districts during the landfall, it said. ....
