Tata Motors, Maruti: Rally in auto stocks may pause for now, say analysts

After a phenomenal rally since March 2020 low that saw the Nifty Auto index jump 132 per cent since then compared to a 93 per cent gain in the Nifty50, the rally in auto stocks may pause for now as demand cools off and companies grapple with supply-side issues, say analysts.
Valuation at which some of the auto stocks are trading at is another concern. PV manufacturers are trading at expensive valuation and I do not find much comfort there. Instead, investors can look at two-wheeler manufacturers and auto ancillaries. They are a better bet given the current industry dynamics. Overall, the blanket rally in auto stocks is likely to take a breather for now, says G Chokkalingam, founder and chief investment officer at Equinomics Research. ....

At $44k, Bitcoin breaches record levels as Tesla's $1.5-billion investment energises digital currency

New Delhi: Bitcoin surged to an all-time high after Tesla Inc said it had invested $1.5 billion in the most popular cryptocurreny last month.
Bitcoin hit $44,795.20 around 1325 GMT, before cooling slightly to $44,207.95, according to AFP.
The cryptocurrency is up by around 50 percent since the start of the year.
The news sent Bitcoin soaring as high as $44,000 and Ethereum surges 7%. The electric carmaker unveiled the investment ten days after its chief executive Elon Musk added a #bitcoin tag on his Twitter profile page, which drove bitcoin higher on the day. ....

Tyre stocks in demand; JK Tyre rallies 15%, MRF scales fresh high

Shares of tyre companies hogged the limelight in Wednesday s session and rallied up to 15 per cent on the BSE after Ceat reported a strong operational performance for the quarter ended December 2020 (Q3FY21).
Ceat, on Tuesday, said that in Q3FY21, its Ebitda (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization) margin improved by 460 basis points (bps) to 15.3 per cent over the previous year quarter. The stock of the auto tyres and rubber products company hit a 52-week high of Rs 1,352 today, having surged 12 per cent in the past two trading days, post its Q3 results.
The company’s consolidated net profit more-than-doubled to Rs 132 crore in Q3FY21 from Rs 53 crore in Q3FY20. This quarter’s growth has been achieved on the back of new capacities across segments, particularly passenger car, two-wheeler and farm segments. The replacement market has been buoyant of consumer preference in personal mobility and strong demand. ....
