HORNBROOK, Calif. California Highway Patrol says that alcohol is suspected as a factor in a fatal rollover crash in Siskiyou County on Sunday night.
According to the agency, 33-year-old Joshua Justice of Weed was driving his 1999 Toyota Land Cruiser east on Ager Beswick Road at an unknown speed around 11 p.m. on Sunday night, accompanied by an unidentified 54-year-old passenger. CHP said that Justice veered off the roadway, apparently over-corrected, then lost control and rolled the Land Cruiser. ....

CHP in Siskiyou, Shasta counties to perform enhanced I-5 patrol

If you’re planning to drive on Interstate 5 tomorrow, the California Highway Patrol recommends you be on your best behavior.
The CHP’s Northern Division, which patrols I-5 in Siskiyou and Shasta counties, will be on the lookout for driver behaviors that cause the most collisions during an “enhanced” enforcement campaign.
An average of 20,000 vehicles travel through Siskiyou County per day, according to the Yreka Area CHP, and in the first quarter of 2021, the office has investigated 98 collisions, 29 of which caused injury. Five of them were fatal.
The enforcement campaign is meant to curb some of the dangerous driving that happens in and through Siskiyou County on I-5, Yreka CHP said. “Remember to slow down, drive the speed limit, wear your seatbelt and stay off your phone while driving.” ....

Early morning Highway 97 crash claims life of unidentified man

The driver of a Ford F-150 died early Wednesday morning after he overturned his truck near the Living Memorial Sculpture Garden on Highway 97. The unidentified man, who wasn t wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle during the crash, died from his injuries, said Yreka California Highway Patrol Public Information Officer Greg Perkins.
Mount Shasta CHP was the first to arrive at the scene just before 2:45 a.m. on Jan. 20, Perkins said. Officers found the unoccupied pickup about 150 feet away from the roadway s edge.
After searching the area, officers located the driver nearby. Medical personnel on scene determined he was dead, Perkins said. ....
